In the heart of the Riviera Maya in Mexico's state of Quintana Roo, on kilometer 240 of the Carretera Chetumal.
That's 122 kilometers/76 miles south of Cancun. From Tulum The Park is a brief 13 kilometers / 8 miles.

60 minutes drive from Cancún, 25 minutes from Playa del Carmen and 15 minutes from Tulum. Park schedule:

    Xel-Há is open all year long. Winter from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and summer from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m

The Maya christened the area Xel-Ha. Xel for source or spring, and ha for water, so the name roughly translates 'where the water is born' or 'source of the water'.

The Maya availed themselves of its perfect location during pre-Hispanic times and used it as a port and safe harbor when navigating these coasts.

      Xel-Ha in Riviera Maya Mexico
Legend says the Mayan gods pooled their wisdom, dreams and love of beauty to create a place where the best of the Caribbean could be gathered.

They called it Xel-Ha and were so pleased with their work, they decided to let in the mortals, but not before appointing the macaw, the iguana and the parrotfish as the "Guardians of Xel-Ha", keepers of the sky, land and sea respectively.

Nowadays Xel-Ha is a marvelous creation of nature that anyone can enjoy, a collection of coves, lagoons, cenotes and caves where sea water merges with the sweet water of the Yucatan's underground rivers.

Swimming or snorkeling in the inlet, pleasantly navigating the river; sunbathing or taking a beach stroll; walking the many different paths and entering into the jungle; admiring the cenotes; uncovering the ancient wall of the Mayan port; discovering the variety of fish, birds, butterflies, iguanas, macaws, ducks, etc.

With your all inclusive ticket, you will have the opportunity to enjoy our Eco-Tour, and get to know better the nature in our park, as well as its history and legends.

You can also enjoy other activities such as swimming with the dolphins, getting to know our Aquatic Institute while enjoying exciting underwater adventures from tank-less diving (Snuba), the snorkeling tour, or even walking under the water with a helmet (Sea Trek).

Xel-Ha is the habitat of more than 100 species of birds, 350 species of plants and 99 marine species.

The above mentioned leads us to foment a cultural respect for life and its diversity by implanting programs to protect and preserve the environment,: Recycling, water treatment plants and the reproduction of species, etc.

At the turtle camp in Xel-Ha we study the life cycle of the white loggerhead turtles, that come to nest from April till November, where annually 20,000 baby turtles are set free.
We also promote Mayan cultural traditions by performing twice yearly a ceremony that blesses the harvest of the Melipona bee. A species that inhabits the plant nursery at Xel-Ha.

Due to its ecological and social programs Xel-Ha has been honored with the distinction of being "A socially responsible enterprise" awarded by CEMEFI.
